All about Spooky Chic

Who says Halloween has to be horrible?  We say out with the antiquated & ugly and in with Spoooky Chic!            Yes - that's 3 ooo's for opulent, outrageous and oddly intriguing!   When you think Spooky Chic, think black lace, orange glitter, chartreuse sparkle and purple shimmer.  Spooky chic is a style of decorating for the lush autumn season, a way setting a Halloween table, styling an entrance way or throwing a "Witch Hat Party."

Stage a spooky chic witch vignette - Here we've placed a wonderful ornate witch hat over a tall lampshade base (Caution - DO NOT turn the light on with the hat over it!), framed favorite witchy greeting cards and photos and last - set the lovely and lethal "Baba Yaga" doll to grace the setting.

Set a spooky chic table - Use things you already have in a new way... we set purple tapers into glass candelabras adorned with fuzzy cloth bats and a little ghoul. In the foreground we casually set a pair of witch gloves and Ms. "Marietta Spider" by Katherine's Collection.  Amethyst wine glasses are also used every Spring to celebrate the lilac harvest!

Doll up a spooky chic chandelier - Whether you have an old crystal and brass chandelier like this one or something much simpler- dress it up!  We placed elegant spiders with old widow faces throughout, added some orange plastic beads (they look like crystal!) and draped the whole thing with a lush black boa! (Last year the theme was bats and we did a very similar look - only with sparkled bats.)

Craft a spooky chic entrance - "Endora Witch" by by Department 56 graces the October entrance at MoonStruck Manor.  Her entorage includes the merry witches sliding down the banister and one adorable vulture perched atop the lamp on the desk.

Hang a spooky chic bat - Do you love her?

Do up your mantle with Spooky Chic Glamour - Gather your spooky chic collection of chachkies (but first throw out anything that's remotely county cute) and your favorite Halloween greeting cards (I've save all the cards my sister has sent me for the pat 20 years.) and decorate a mantle.  We even added purple and orange twinkle lights behind the fire grate to create an erie glow when the lights are turned down.

Throw a spooky chic party - Costumes absolutely required - with a spooky chic theme, of course. Which for me and my girlfriends mean witch hats!  The more ornate - the better!
